We often have large spreadsheets that we work on and want to note when we made an entry or the last time the data in a worksheet was saved.  One way to do that is with the function =NOW.  This will enter the date and time the function is entered.  However, just like =TODAY, every time the sheet is recalculated or closed and opened, the =NOW function will update.  Therefore, once entered, covert it to its value using Paste Special – Values.  See my post here

Here is an example of the =NOW function: 

You can format it from the 24 hour format to any other time/date related format by right-clicking on the cell and choosing Format cells.  I’ve chosen to use a custom format and added AM/PM to the m/d/yyyy h:mm format:
